Dining Room

May 15, 2012

For a long time, our dining room went largely unused. It was an empty room with only one little boring rug. We ate our meals in the living room on the coffee table in front of the television like true Americans.

But we wanted to be better. I hunted Craiglist and all the usual thrift and consignment stores, searching for that elusive Danish Modern set I was sure I would find. And really, the selection out there is pretty good if you’ve got an extra $1,000 burning a hole in your pocket. Anyone? Anyone?

Then I found this:

For $80. I know. So it isn’t Danish and it’s not that Kent Coffey set it might pretend to be at a distance. And the table isn’t great, it has a laminate top and the legs are uggo. But c’mon. It looks good.

You may have noticed that gorgeous kilim hanging out under the table. In fact, you may not have been able to look at the dining set, completely distracted by Turkish woven beauty.

It was my first eBay purchase in a long time and I couldn’t be happier. I had hoped to find something wider but am perfectly happy with how well it works in the room. I love the border most of all – bright triangles on black, like colorful farfalle dancing around us while we eat.

The dining room has become my favorite place in the apartment. Andy and I feel like real grown-ups now, sitting down to dinner at our table, talking about how our days went with Penelope curled up at our feet.

Wow. The fireplace and carpet stole my heart. But not a bad dining table either.

I absolutely LOVE this! Hopped over from Miss Moss following your dip-dyed IKEA table which I also LOVED. I am definitely subscribing and looking forward to reading more.

Ah! I’ve been watching ebay for kilim rugs, but I’ve been too scared to buy a whole RUG. Which seller did you use? Would you recommend them?

I bought my rug from “turkishcarpet” and everything went smoothly. The seller has tons of great reviews and although shipping was more than I’d ever spent to ship anything, it got to me really fast. It arrived at my door just one week after I placed my order even though the shipping estimate was 2-4 weeks!

Based on my experience and the other reviews, I’d totally recommend :).

“turkish_rugs” also has a great selection, good reviews, and offer free shipping on lots of their rugs.

      I hope you find one!

It sure does look good! And for $80 you can laugh at the designer version all the way to the bank. Love your rug too- kilim rocks.
