The Scenery House

My Home is Featured on Emily Henderson’s Blog!

March 5, 2019

The title above is something I never thought I’d be lucky enough to type. I am so flattered and still in shock that Emily Henderson has even seen a picture of my home, let alone wanted to share it with her readers. I’ve been chatting with Arlyn, Emily’s amazing Editorial Director, since November about doing a tour and I had a million excuses as to why my house wasn’t quite ready just yet. But it was ready, it IS ready, it will always be ever evolving, slowly being undecorated and restored, reinvigorated and redesigned. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done here and I am so grateful for this opportunity to show it off.

Emily Henderson’s designs have been a guiding light for me in my own work for as long as I’ve had a space that’s my own. All of this to say, I feel like I’ve won an Oscar.

A million thank yous to Emily Henderson and Arlyn Hernandez for seeing me, seeing my home, and sharing it. See the full home tour on Emily Henderson’s blog here.

And thank YOU my friend, whether new or old, for being here. It means so much to me and my little family.

If you want to see all the rooms in my house in one place with links to more info about them, check out my House Tour. If you’re interested in learning more about the Green Guest Bedroom featured on Emily’s Instagram, check out the reveal post.

If you want to see where we started with this house, there’s no better place than my tour of the first-floor listing photos and the second-floor listing photos.

I love your house! You’ve done such a great job updating it yet respecting its history. Question – I have a similarly sized living room/layout – do you have a photo of how you fit in the tv? Thanks!

Thank you so much! Figuring out where to put the TV has been a huge challenge for us. For now, we have the TV on a cart in the doorway to the sunroom – not ideal AT ALL but it’s doing the job. You can see some pictures of that in this post https://www.thesweetbeastblog.com/2017/04/09/but-what-rug-goes-best-with-those-dark-moody-walls/

Our plan is to add a Samsung Frame TV above the mantel.

thank you!!!! We have a similar layout with a fireplace and doors with glass panes on either side (in our case, to a side porch that needs love). The previous owners had the TV above the fireplace, but our mantel is high enough that this would cause neck strain – ah! We put an antique mirror above the mantel, and have TV perched on an 1940’s radio cabinet (my grandparents’) and it’s blocking one of the doors to the porch.

    Exciting!

I’d never seen pictures of your sunroom before. You’re right, those windows are amazing. I have to say, I kind of love the wallpaper.

    Congrats on the feature.

Thank you so much, Erin! I love collecting unique pieces and making my own too!

Your home is beautiful! I loved every single thing about it (including your pup, of course). Questions based on the article: 1. What size pulls did you use for the nightstand? 2. What color is that guest bedroom? (I will search your posts for it too I swear) 3. Do you like that Cb2 nightstand in your master? Thanks!

And you can ignore 2 of my questions re hardware and paint color (found them in your very detailed posts, thanks)!

haha ok cool! Thank you :) I do really like the Crate and Barrel nightstands in the master bedroom, they are a nice size (lots of storage room) and the plugs are great. Wenge is a wood color I’ve never worked with before, it can look a little red or a little purple sometimes so I kinda wish it was just a regular ol’ dark wood.

Beautiful home. . Great job with your decorating ideas and skills . I like your style. I have a question about your kitchen rug . I also have honey oak cabinets and plan to keep them . I am on a hunt for a kitchen rug to compliment the cabinets but concerned with the orange tone . Does the rug do a great job complimenting the cabinets and are you very pleased with the effect ? Keep up the good work and looking forward to learn more from you .

Thank you! Yes, I am happy with how the rug works with the orangey tones in the cabinets but ties together the deep gray blue from the coffee nook. I think it makes everything look nice and intentional!

Another question – are you happy with the guest room nightstands? Any regrets? Thanks!
